Femboy Story: Between Hoodie, Heartbeats, and Lipstick

Femboy Story: Between Hoodie, Heartbeats, and Lipstick

Today was one of those days that start completely normal and then suddenly feel like someone secretly sprinkled glitter over reality.

I woke up way too late this morning, naturally. My phone was lying somewhere between pillows, charging cables, and an old black hoodie that I really should have washed ages ago, but it's just too cozy to banish from my life. Outside, everything was gray, the kind of typical day when you wish you weren't human at all. But somehow today I had this feeling that I didn't just want to disappear in jeans and some random shirt.

So I stood in front of my closet and looked at this one outfit that I had ordered a few weeks ago: a soft, slightly oversized cream-colored sweater, black slim-fit pants to go with it, and this silver necklace that I had only worn twice because it always seemed a bit „too much“ for me. Today it was just right.

I don't know why clothing sometimes has so much to do with courage. In reality, it's just fabric, colors, shapes. And yet, a sweater can feel like a small confession. Like a sentence you don't say out loud, but everyone can see if they look closely enough.

I hesitated in front of the mirror for a long time. My hair was falling well today, unusually so. It was a little messy, but in a way that didn't look like chaos, but like intention. I used a bit of concealer, very subtly, and then this light lip tint that's barely noticeable. Almost. But I knew it. And that was enough to make my heart beat faster.

When I went to the café later, I was more nervous than I wanted to admit. It wasn't like anything special was planned. I just wanted to have a coffee, maybe do some writing, maybe pretend to be one of those people who have their lives together and are productive in cafés. Spoiler alert: I'm not one of them. I usually order something, then stare dramatically out the window, and write three sentences, two of which I delete.

But today there was this guy.

He sat by the window, a laptop in front of him and headphones around his neck. Dark hair, calm eyes, a black sweater, that relaxed look, as if nothing could easily upset him. I think I'd seen him before. Or maybe my mind just wanted to believe that because it sounds more romantic.

I sat down two tables away, ordered a cappuccino, and tried not to keep looking over. Which, of course, worked perfectly. For about three seconds.

At some point, my pen fell. Not dramatically, not movie-worthy, just embarrassingly clumsy. It rolled right in his direction, and before I could react, he picked it up.

„I think this one belongs to you,“ he said.

His voice was warm. Not deep in that exaggerated movie kind of way, but simply pleasant. The kind of voice that automatically makes you a bit calmer.

I picked up the pen and said, „Thank you. This clearly has more courage than I do.“

He grinned. „Then maybe I should interview him.“

I laughed, and unfortunately, it wasn't a cool laugh, but rather that little, surprised laugh that slips out when you're not prepared. But he didn't look like he was judging me for it. Quite the opposite. His gaze lingered on me for a moment longer, just long enough for my face to get warm.

A few minutes later, he asked if the seat at my table was free. I said yes, although internally, all my systems immediately went into high alert. Alarm. Romantic situation. Please maintain composure. Don't choke. Don't wave weirdly. Don't accidentally knock over the coffee.

His name was Milan.

We first talked about trivial things. Coffee. Weather. Music. Series we started but never finished. Then about games, about old favorite songs, about the strange art of feeling confident online and then suddenly not knowing what to do with your hands in real life.

And at some point he asked, „Is this your style? I mean... today?“

For a moment, I didn't know if I had to defend myself. That question can mean anything. It can be curious. Or mocking. Or dangerously soft.

But Milan didn't look at me strangely. He just looked at me.

So I said, „Maybe. I'm still figuring it out.“

He nodded slowly. „It suits you.“

He said nothing more. Just those two words. But they hit me somewhere deep, where I hadn't expected them to. Not because I need validation. At least, I like to tell myself that. But because it feels so good sometimes to be seen without having to explain yourself.

I think that was the moment when a normal afternoon turned into something else.

We sat there for almost two hours. My cappuccino got cold, his laptop went into standby mode at some point, and neither of us pretended we had to be somewhere urgently. It was slowly getting dark outside, and the lights from the cafe were reflected in the window. I caught a brief glimpse of myself in it: the soft sweater, the necklace, slightly shiny lips, my nervous fingers around the cup.

And suddenly I didn't find myself strange.

Only real.

As we left, we stood next to each other for a moment longer in front of the cafe. That little, awkward pause where both know the goodbye isn't supposed to happen quite yet.

„I found that beautiful,“ said Milan.

„Me too,“ I replied, far too quickly.

He smiled. „Maybe we'll do that again sometime? Without a runaway pen as an icebreaker?“

I had to grin. „The pen will be disappointed, but yes.“

Then we exchanged numbers. Very calmly, actually. Still, it felt like I had just walked into a scene from a movie, just without perfect lighting and without a soundtrack. Although... maybe the soundtrack was just my heart going completely overboard.

At home, I stood in front of the mirror again. Not to check myself. Not to see if something was wrong. But because I wanted to capture this day.

I didn't look like anyone else.

I looked like me.

Maybe a little bolder. Maybe a little softer. Maybe a little more like how I've been feeling inside for a long time.

And then his message came.

„Did you get home okay?“

Just a simple sentence. And still, I read it three times before replying.

I wrote: „Yes. And my pen too.“

He sent back a laughing emoji.

I know this isn't a big deal. No dramatic love confession, no fireworks, no kiss in the rain. But maybe the most beautiful beginnings are just like this. Quiet. Accidental. With a cappuccino, a rolling pen, and someone saying, „It suits you.“

And maybe that's completely enough for today.

Good night, dear diary.

Today I was a little more visible.

And it didn't feel wrong at all.
